Intertek appointed for trade assurance in Kenya

Kenya Bureau of Standards (KEBS) appoints Intertek as a conformity assessment body to support the assurance of products imported into the country
Intertek, a leading Total Quality Assurance provider to industries worldwide, has been appointed by the Kenya Bureau of Standards (KEBS) as a notified conformity assessment body under the Kenya Pre-Export Verification of Conformity (PVoC) Programme. This appointment reflects KEBS’s confidence in Intertek as a recognised conformity assessment partner supporting product compliance and trade assurance.
The Kenya PVoC Programme helps ensure that regulated products imported into Kenya comply with applicable Kenyan technical regulations and standards, or other approved standards, prior to shipment. Compliance is demonstrated through the issuance of a Certificate of Conformity (CoC), supporting smoother customs clearance and helping protect the Kenyan market from non-compliant imports.
As an authorised conformity assessment body, Intertek will carry out the PVoC Programme processes, including document review, product testing (where applicable), inspection and certification, supported by its global laboratory and inspection network and deep technical expertise.
The regulated products under the Kenya PVoC Programme include, but are not limited to:
- Consumer products
- Machinery and industrial equipment
- Medical equipment
- Automotive parts and spares
- Chemicals and raw materials
- Food products
- Cosmetic products
Where products fall under the mandate of other Kenyan regulators (for example, controlled or licensed goods), they may be subject to additional or separate approval requirements alongside PVoC.
Certification of shipments under the Kenya PVoC Programme will be carried out within Intertek’s assigned Zones of Responsibility, based on the country of supply, regardless of where the certification request is submitted.
Intertek’s Zones of Responsibility for the Kenya PVoC Programme include:
- China — Mainland China, Hong Kong, Taiwan and Mongolia
- Indian Subcontinent — India, Pakistan and Sri Lanka
- Far East — Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Thailand, Cambodia, Singapore and Vietnam
- Middle East — Iraq and Jordan
- Gulf & UAE Zone — United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Oman, Kuwait, Qatar, Bahrain, and Lebanon

Exporters and importers shipping goods to Kenya are encouraged to engage early to confirm whether their products are regulated and to ensure timely certification ahead of shipment. Exporters can contact their nearest Intertek office for guidance on PVoC requirements, applicable routes, documentation, and certification timelines.
